Acupuncture enhances the scope of conditions treated by physiotherapists.
Acupuncture is safe and virtually painless, using sterilised, single-use needles.
Acupuncture works naturally with little or no side effects, stimulating the body to heal itself.
AACP members are bound by professional rules and standards. They are approved by the National Blood Transfusion Service.

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient healing technique developed thousands of years ago in China and other eastern countries. The Ancient theories of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are based around alterations in flow of energy along channels throughout the body. By stimulating points along these channels with pressure, fine needles, heat, cold or electricity, the body’s healing response can be stimulated to restore it to its natural state of balance.

What conditions can be treated with Acupuncture?

The answer is almost anything. Our Physiotherapists frequently use acupuncture for:

Acute injuries or sports injuries.
Whiplash, neck pain or headaches.
Joint pain and arthritis
Muscular pain and spasm

Will it help me?

Today, acupuncture is still used as the first line of treatment for many musculo-skeletal or medical conditions in China. Research has shown that most people gain pain relief from acupuncture and there is now scientific proof that acupuncture causes the release of endorphins (pain relieving chemicals) and serotonin (a relaxant) from the brain. Clinical trials have provided evidence that it has a powerful and sustained effect on muscular skeletal pain and as a result acupuncture is now an accepted treatment and is slowly being integrated with conventional medicine.

How many sessions will I require?

Patients treated with Acupuncture will generally require at least three treatments before the physiotherapist can be certain there is a reaction. Strong reactors will show changes immediately after the first treatment and may even become slightly worse initially. The effect of acupuncture is cumulative and the majority of patients experience a gradual change in symptoms over their course of treatment which is normally 6-8 sessions. Chronic conditions often take longer to respond and occasionally become worse at first, but often respond well after this initial phase of discomfort.

Why have acupuncture with a Chartered Physiotherapist

Being Chartered Physiotherapists and members of the AACP, Physio2You are fully qualified to treat clients with acupuncture. However we rarely (and normally only at the request of a client) just use acupuncture for treatment but rather combine its benefits with those of other Physiotherapy treatment techniques. Frequently a session will therefore involve both acupuncture and manual treatment or rehabilitation.
